COGNITIONS

During this seminar I had the opportunity to be in contact with a new part of Aachen that I’ve never seen before.
Through all these months I’ve noted that the natural aspect is very important and protected in this city. The inhabitants participate to the natural process and they enjoy in the natural context. There is a continuative relation between nature and citizens, the nature is a considerable part of the life of this city.
And this relation is possible because the natural areas are all around the city, and this aspect has impressed me very much: different areas, with different characteristics and different purpose are in direct contact; the central part of Aachen is in direct contact with the natural areas, in which the human presence is not so evident and invasive. Two different dimensions, and aspects, that characterize the behaviour of Aachen.
What I’ve considered, during the study of our area, is that the passage through one dimension (the city) to another (the nature) is not so soft, but, in my opinion, there is a precise division between these two dimensions: the dimension of the street changes (it becomes littlest) at the beginning of our area, and this aspect contributes to give the impression to enter in another context; also the density of the buildings changes in favour of the natural aspect.
The coexistence of these two dimensions gives the possibility to choose one of them with the opportunity to enjoy in the other one whenever you want.
This flexibility of different spaces has impressed me a lot, and I find it very interesting and important, especially if is considered the urbanistic aspect of a city: the presence of different areas, that have a direct relation, is very important to increase the value of the town, and to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.
